Many times, when we plan a vacation, we know where we want to go. But, perhaps you don't have a specific place in mind and are looking for some vacation destinations to choose from. The first order of business is to decide your budget. Yes, you'll have to number crunch and find out how much you want to spend. From there, finding vacation destinations is simple.Perhaps you are looking for information on some of the big name vacation destinations such as Disney World, Las Vegas, or the Bahamas? Finding information on these vacation destinations is simple as it is everywhere you look.

Or, perhaps you want a specific kind of vacation like a tropical island, a beach, or a ski resort? There are exotic vacation destinations and family oriented vacation destinations. The sky is the limit. To find information regarding different vacation destinations, it is no longer necessary to visit the travel agent or even the library. There is a wealth of information right on the internet that you can get right from your home. It's as simple as doing a web search for one of the many vacation planning websites. One great example is http://www.e-travelpromos.com where you can find many choices in vacation destinations. Now, back to the budget we go.

While we can look at all kinds of vacation destinations and set our dreams high, remember to realize that all vacation destinations will cost you something. Remember to consider hotel accommodations, airfare or transportation to the location, car rentals, meals, drinks, taxes, tips, and spending money. You may choose to visit a vacation destination where there are a lot of sites to see. Realize that most likely you will need to pay a per person fee to see attractions or to rent equipment. There are many items to include in your budget.

Once you have done this you can consider which vacation destination will be right for you..

One of the ports of call for our Royal Caribbean cruiseship was Ocho Rios, Jamaica. Probably the most famous site in the region is Dunn's River Falls and we chose to tour it on our own rather than through one of the cruiseship tours. Once we disembarked from the cruiseship, there were cabs and shuttlebuses available at the pier. Cabs to Dunn's River Falls were $22 US for a return trip. Cabs allowed 1-3 people per vehicle.

We were also told at the pier that small shuttlebuses also go to the Falls at $5.50 US per person. These were also based on return trips. The only problem with shuttlebuses was that we had to wait until they filled up the shuttle before leaving for the Falls so since we were the first on the bus, we had to wait about 15 minutes for it to fill up. The driver then asks you when you want to be picked up at the Falls for the return trip. Our driver suggested 2 hours to see the Falls so we agreed on this time duration.Once at the Falls, a woman then came onboard the shuttle to sell tickets for admission to the site at $10 US per adult person which was the same rate at the park's ticket booth.

Once inside the Dunn's facility, there were rentals for special rubber shoes as well as lockers. We carried a small backpack so we didn't require paying for a locker. We also brought along our scuba diving booties so we didn't have to rent those rubber shoes on site either. The cruiseship shop was also selling these rubber shoes in advance. Shoes of some type are highly recommended as the rocks on the Falls can be slippery and some of the bottoms of the water pools are a bit rocky.

If you have old sneakers you don't mind getting wet, they will be suitable for the climb up the falls as well. Our scuba diving booties turned out to be sufficient. The entrance to the site is at the top of the falls so we took some stairs that were adjacent to the falls to the bottom where the beach and entrance to the climb were. There are official guides dressed in blue polo shirts and shorts who will take groups up the falls. Normally, they will ask to carry all cameras for you so they can take photos of you as you climb. Of course, they expect to be well tipped for their services.

Also, groups were told to hold hands forming a human chain up the falls. This was suppose to make things safer but as we witnessed, this method of going up the falls is not a guarantee against falling. We saw a woman let go and she fell down the rocks during one of the steeper sections. She wasn't badly hurt but we imagined that she sustained some nice bruises. There are various points along the falls where you could get off the falls and back on the stairs to walk up the rest of the way.

Not everyone there attempted to climb the falls as many were happy to just walk dry along the side on the stairs. We chose not to go with any of the groups which tend to go up the left side of the falls. We made our way up on our own mostly on the right side. With some breaks for photos, we made it all the way up the falls in about 30 minutes. Going with a group would have taken longer for sure.

The water is a bit cool and if you have a wetsuit, it is highly suggested that you wear it for the climb. Cameras used there up the falls are also recommended to be water resistant since they likely will get wet. We left our digital camera on the ship and took one of those $25 underwater cameras. After climbing the falls, we headed back down to the relatively small but uncrowded beach where the ocean water was warmer until it was time to depart. The exit back at the top of the falls was strategically located at the end of a market so we did have to go through some locals who tried to sell us their souveniers. These locals who worked inside the Dunn's site were hustling but not as aggressively as those in the town of Ocho Rios.

The shuttlebus arrived at the site parking lot on time as agreed. The total amount we spent including the park admission and the shuttle was $31 US for the two of us. Taking an organized tour through the cruiseship would have cost more than double this amount. So it is quite possible to tour Dunn's River Falls on your own rather than take the more expensive tours. We were glad that we did see Dunn's River Falls but we thought that it was not nearly as impressive as depicted on photos in travel brochures.

The official website for Dunn's River Falls is http://www.dunnsriverja.com.

Kara Homes, a home builder based in East Brunswick, has constructed "Millionaire's Row," said the company's president, Mr.Zudi Karagjozi. He has promoted the development as a first: very-high-end homes, actually on New Jersey's oceanfront, only a 45-minute ferry ride from Manhattan. Mr.Karagjozi said he likes to think of the project as a renaissance for Sea Bright, a "restoration" of its period of highest elegance in the late 1800's when big names of the day -- Alfred Gwynne Vanderbilt, William Nelson Cromwell, Sir Thomas Lipton of World Cup racing fame -- summered there, engaging in chic festivites like an annual horse-drawn carriage race between Sea Bright and Long Branch.By 1870, the railroad had come through the little town, which is bordered by the Atlantic Ocean on one side and the Shrewsbury River on the other. Sea Bright's barrier beach, which is the southern half of the Sandy Hook peninsula, had been purchased by its first developers, who brought in topsoil from Rumson Long Branch to smooth out the hilly dunes and began building enormous Victorian "cottages" and huge, sumptuous hotels. The half-dozen grand old hotels that once stood on the barrier beach are now gone, according to the Monmouth County historian, George H. Moss Jr., who has pored over their ledgers to find evidence of the past.

Mr. Moss has written a number of books about the area and published a pamphlet on Sea Bright's early history. He describes how people coming from New York by steamer in the 1840's and 1850's, when Nauvoo was still just Nauvoo, would disembark at the ocean House Hotel near the village and continue on if they wished to their favorite hotel in the more established Long Branch.???? Mr. Karagjozi and his architect, William Tagland, who is known for his work on Long Beach Island, say the new community will outshine what is available even in those highly affluent towns."When was the last time you heard of ocean front homes becoming available only 45 minutes from New York?" Mr. Karagjozi said,"This is going to be a whole neighbourhood of them, each one with incredible views and great amenities for relaxing and for entertaining."Mr.Karagjozi painted Sea Bright as potential "New Hamptons," providing an alternative to the famously gridlocked multihour drive along the Long Island Expressway from Manhattan to the Long Island resort communities.

The trip to Sea Bright is only about an hour by car, he said. The ferry from Manhattan runs frequently to nearby Highlands, Atlantic Highlands and Belford.Mr.Karagjozi, who has been promoting his company through radio and television advertising, founded Kara Homes in 1999. Three years later, it was named the fastest-growing building company in the country by the industry publication builder, Builder Magazine. The Kara founder said one thing the company always tries to do is develop neighbourhoods that are sensitive to the surrounding community -- not crowding homes onto property, but rather using designs that are compatible with what exists and having to local planner's wishes. The $2 million-plus homes which are constructed, most of them have already been sold."Getting out to the Hamptons has become difficult'"Karagjozi says. The trip from Manhattan to Sea Bright, on the other hand takes less than two hours by car and a mere 35 minutes ferry. For buyer Andrew Czujko, a New Jersey business owner, the Jersey shore location was just what he was looking for.Tradewinds' homes shouldn't lack for elegance. The houses will range from five to six bedrooms, with trickedout oceanfront properties (featuring hardwood floors, designer ceramic tile and the ever important four-car garage) beginning at $3.8 million.

More modest oceanview homes will start at $2 million. The website is www.karahomes.com.

The only accommodations of their kind in Santa Monica, the exceptionally private Bungalows at The Fairmont Miramar Hotel Santa Monica have served as an exclusive playground for celebrities, politicians, and other discerning guests seeking luxury and seclusion. Under the creative aegis of Virginia Ball of VB Designs, a small Los Angeles based interiors firm, the bungalows recently underwent a $1 million renovation, which represents the final phase of the hotel's $18 million refurbishment program. The goal of the renovation was to transform the Bungalows into a residential environment so that each guest feels right at home in this beautiful seaside property. The 28 structures were remodeled one at a time. An equal amount of care was given to the original Craftsman design. As such, each abode retained its spacious patios and terraces, hardwood floors, oversized tubs, and French windows.Set apart from the main hotel building, the Bungalows are connected by a winding path that runs though the property's lush landscape and pool areas.

Fresh new fabrics have been incorporated into the rooms, including vibrant golden drapery with a blue floral accent band at the hem. The new wall covering in the parlors resembles grass cloth while a broad blue/white striped wall covering brightens the bathroom. Luxurious bed linens give the guestroom an inviting feel. New exotic veneer headboards with inlay details, custom night stands & settees, and McGuire desks have been incorporated into the rooms, as well. The patio furniture was re-upholstered in a vibrant, multi-color stripe that adds an unexpected punch of color to each private patio.

A variety of new services and amenities are also exclusively available to Bungalow guests: * Prior to arrival, the Bungalow Personal Assistant contacts each Bungalow guest to ensure their needs prior to arrival and during their entire stay are tended to with the utmost attention to detail. * Upon arrival, Bungalow guests will receive a complimentary edible welcome amenity made up of a cinnamon-and-sugar "white sand beach" with chocolate surfboards and beach balls. * A complimentary sun hat and beach towel is also provided.* The "Patio Panache" Bungalow BBQ and Menu prepared by the hotel chef is available for lunch and dinner. There are three menu options or guests can have menus customized to their liking.* As a Bungalow resident, guests also have access to a private selection of wines and top shelf specialty cocktails. * Upgraded "The Thymes" bathroom amenities are provided complimentary.

* A variety of "The Sea" products made by Waterl'eau of Belgium are available for purchase in every room. Shortly after Fairmont Hotels & Resorts acquired the management contract in November 1999, the historic Miramar Hotel underwent a top to bottom redesign. The first phase of the renovation encompassed all guest rooms and suites in the Ocean Tower and Pacific Palisades building as well as the lobby, lobby bar and Koi Pond Lounge, The Grille restaurant patio, and conference bungalows. Even the main drive up entryway underwent a re-landscaping.The hotel has 302 guest rooms, including the 32 single and bi-level bungalows. Boasting the largest ballroom in Santa Monica, the property features a total of 25,000 square feet of meeting and conference space.

For dining, guests enjoy contemporary California cuisine at the Grille restaurant. Al fresco dining is available on the Grille patio and in the Koi Pond Lounge. Amenities include a well-equipped health club and day spa, and extensive meeting facilities. Semitropical gardens, a Koi pond, and an outdoor swimming pool create a private park-like setting inside the hotel's grounds.Located in the heart of Southern California's most popular seaside destination, the Bungalows at Fairmont Miramar Hotel Santa Monica are situated atop the scenic bluffs overlooking Santa Monica Beach. Conveniently located just nine miles from the Los Angeles International Airport, and 14 miles from downtown, the hotel offers one of the city's best locations.

It is just a short drive away from The Getty Center, Beverly Hills, West Los Angeles, Century City, Malibu and Venice Beach. Many of Southern California's attractions are walking distance, including the Santa Monica Pier and its historic carousel as well as the Third Street Promenade -- famous for its fine restaurants, live entertainment, movie theaters, shopping. Not to mention a local art scene and a weekly farmers' market. Bungalow rates for 2004 start at $509 per night.Operating 43 properties throughout six countries, Fairmont is a collection of world-class resorts and city center hotels that enjoy unrivaled presence in the communities where they are located.

Vertical Truth ? Surfing Vero Beach, FloridaRead Jetsetters Magazine at www.jetsettersmagazine.comRead Jetsetters Magazine at www.jetsettersmagazine.comTo read this entire feature FREE with photos cut and paste this link:http://jetsettersmagazine.com/archive/jetezine/sports02/surfing/cflorida/lou.html"You gotta want to do it ?you have got to want to SURF!"These words come from Lou Maresca as I sit listening in a pavilion at Fort Pierce State Recreation Area just south of Vero Beach, Florida. I had come to write an article on his school and attend a session of classes and I have to admit I had not really given the issue all that much thought. I mean, after all, how hard can it be?Well, I'll tell you what - it ain't easy! But if you are aged 7 to 70 and in relatively decent shape, Lou and his crew will teach you how to surf. They claim a success rate of 95% and I believe them, having seen as much with my own eyes. Lou pioneered East Coast surf schools some years ago, works out of a beautiful facility, has tons of experience, and uses quality equipment.

Do not be fooled by imitators. Before class started Lou personally spoke to each potential student and intensively asked some questions about their abilities and experiences:He was a very serious and focused, clearly a professional gauging the strengths and weaknesses of his clients. Next the payments outstanding were dealt with, all accomplished with very little hassle. Lou makes family discounts and will take checks (Florida only). This was about the time the comment that opens this story was heard. One of the students was not sure she was into it and it became clear that Lou had been here before.

I figured out later he simply didn't want to be wasting anyone's time during the lessons to be dealing with a situation he could handle right now. He assured the young lady that his feelings were not on the line, he just wanted to make sure they weren't going to have to be talking anyone into anything once out in the water. She said she wanted to surf and we were off.Lou's school has a couple different levels of instruction: those who know how to surf and those who don't. Those who have surfed before and are fairly competent at the basics of surfing will receive personal instruction at the hands of the master. They will proceed directly to the water and Lou will watch them surf for a bit, then he'll join them in the water and assist them in the finer points of choosing waves and getting up to speed so as to overtake and meld with them for a free ride to the beach.

He will fine tune their technique and do some surfing himself, allowing them to see how it's done. The other group of students, those who have not surfed before or who are still working on the basics of paddling out and into waves and then popping up on their boards, will stay for an hour of instruction back at the pavilion before proceeding to the water. That was for me and half a dozen children, I'd say from ages 7 to 13.Lou works with a couple of local surfers who assist him in his classes. Ryan is a 22-year-old surfer gal who sings in a band when not surfing and has a smile that literally bursts out of her when particularly happy surf thought breaks over her mind.Billy is a 27-year-old business owner (G-Bolt, a company that makes and sells accessories for wake boards) who assists Lou in his spare time for some extra geld. He is also constantly smiling; actually his face looks like it hurts when he isn't grinningThese two were like all the surfers I met in that it was easy to see that one thing a surfer loves is anything to do with surfing.

They are constantly looking for the next wave, a tireless and endless pursuit that seems to them like a natural extension of breathing. At one point in my day I had asked Ryan if she ever got tired of talking about surfing. She looked at me like I was insane and explained that it was something inside of her, "a drive." Lou had recently been instructing a few Air Force Lieutenants, one of whom observed to him that he was constantly in the water, working in it all day, then playing in it; his response to this was that they should think of him as, "an ocean going mammal. I come out of the ocean to feed, sleep and one other thing. Then I'm back in the water." These guys live to surf and when your class starts you will feel that desire coming off them in waves, and I guarantee you, it is infectious. My beginners class started with a hefty dose of safety instruction. Ryan was very clear and adamant about the potential dangers to be faced in the water.

Although I never felt any fear of any of the things covered when I was actually in the water, they do an excellent job of making the possible dangers very clear to those who know nothing of the ocean.Everything was covered; from holding your board properly, moving around with it safely in the water, and any potentially dangerous ocean fauna you might bump into. Ryan had an instant rapport with the kids, and although she allowed their occasional digression, she was expert at bringing them back to the task at hand and keeping their attention. If I were going to put my kid into a school to learn how to surf, these folks would be the ones I'd want teaching them; safety was a huge priority and yet I don't feel that the kids ever thought they were being talked down to. Ryan almost went out of her way to scare us all a bit, to make us know we were participating in a sport that could be dangerous, and in a potentially perilous place as well, although it was all a bit overplayed for awareness:To read this entire feature FREE with photos cut and paste this link:http://jetsettersmagazine.com/archive/jetezine/sports02/surfing/cflorida/lou.html, Jetsetters Magazine Correspondent ?
